【摘要】:1.1ThisguidealongwithGuideE1192andguidancefromtheU.S.EnvironmentalProtectionAgency(1,2)coverstheuseofresidentspeciesintoxicitytesting,particularlyifsite-specificinformationisdesired.Forexample,inthosesystemswhereparticularspeciesareconsideredtobeeconomicallyoraestheticallyimportant,itmightbemoreappropriatetoutilizeresidentspeciesfortesting(3).Forthisreason,theUSEPAallowsdevelopmentofsite-specificchemicalstandards,usingresidentspecies,inordertoreflectlocalconditions(1).Thisguideisdesignedtoguidetheselectionofresidentspeciesforuseastestorganismsinaquaticandsedimenttoxicitytests.Itpresupposesthattheuserisfamiliarwiththetaxonomyofaquaticandbenthicspeciesandhassomefieldexperience.1.2Becausetoxicologicalinformationisoftenlimitedformanyaquaticspecies,itisassumedthatthemajorityoftestingapplicationswillbeacutetests.Therefore,muchoftheguidancepresentedinthisguidepertainingtothespeciesselectionprocessisapplicablewhenacutetoxicitytestingisthedesiredgoal.However,theprinciplesdiscussedinthisguidepertaintochronictoxicitytestapplicationsaswell,althoughitshouldbeclearlyunderstoodthatsuchtestingrequiressubstantiallygreatereffort,time,andresourcesthanacutetesting.1.3Theproceduresforselectingresidentspeciesintoxicitytestingarenecessarilygeneralatthistimebecauseinformationisoftenlackingforspecifictaxaorgroupsoftaxa.Thisguideattemptstogivespecificinformationwhenappropriate.1.4Thisguideisnotintendedtobeinclusive.Referenceslistedprovideastartingpointfromwhichtoapproachtheliterature.Thisguidedealssolelywithaquatictoxicitytestsituations.Terrestrial,arboreal,oratmosphericspeciesarenotconsideredinthisguide.1.5Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.Allsafetyprecautionsandhealth-relatedpracticesaretheresponsibilityoftheuser.SpecificsafetypracticesaresuggestedinSection8.
