【摘要】:ThisinvestigationwasdirectedtowardestablishingtherelationshipbetweensmokeratingsofvariousbuildingmaterialsasdevelopedbyUnderwritersLaboratoriesInc.SteinerTunnelTestMethodforFire-HazardClassificationofBuildingMaterials,StandardUL723(ASTM-E-84)(NFPA-255)(ASAA2.5-1963)andlossofthevisibilityinaroominwhichthesmokefromtheratingtestswascollected.Thesmokedatapresentedhasnotbeenrelatedtootherimportantfirehazardcharacteristicsofthematerialstested.Suchotherfactorsincludespreadofflame,contributionoffuel,combustibility,andtoxicityaswellasadversephysiologicaleffectsonthehumanbodyresultingfromexposuretoheatandtheeffectsofinhalinghotgases.Theresultsoftheinvestigationareinfluencedbyandpertaintothefixedexperimentalparameterssuchasthesizeofspecimenandexposurefireusedinthestandardtestmethod,thevolumeoftheroomintowhichthesmokewasvented,themethodofintroducingthesmokeintotheroom,andthelocationofthelightedexitsignsandinstrumentationaswellasthenatureofthematerialtested.Withintheselimitations,avisualconceptofanumericalindicationofsmokeproductionwasdetermined.Underthetestconditions,visualobservationsandphotographsoflightedexitsignsinthetestroomwererelatedtoascaleofsmokedensity.Withthisprocedure,itwasestablishedthata0scalereadingwasrecordedwithnoreductioninvisibilityand5fortotalobscuration.Goodvisibilityexistedwithascalereadingof3,despitethepresenceofsomesmokeintheroom,fairvisibilityat4,andmarginalorpoorat4.8.Materialstestedincludedredoakflooring,1/4and3/8inchplywood,3/4inchtreatedplywood,1/4inchtemperedhardboard,1/2inchcellulosictile,poly(vinyl-chloride)flatandcorrugatedpanels,polyesterreinforcedcorrugatedpanels,1/32and1/16inchplasticlaminatesadheredtosteel,gypsumboardandasbestoscementboard,1/16inchplasticlaminatesnotbonded,polyethylenefilmmechanicallysecuredtomineralfiberboard,vinylwallcoveringsadheredtoasbestoscementboard,paintcoatingson3/8inchplywood,5/8inchmineralfiberboard,andIinchglassfiberboard.AsummaryofthedatashowedthatalltestedmaterialshavingaSmokeDevelopedratingof16orlessproducedavisibilityscalereadinginthesmokeaccumulationroomofnotmorethan0.8insixminutes.MaterialshavingaSmokeDevelopedratingof200orlessproducedavisibilityscalereadingofnotinexcessof3insixminutes.MaterialshavingSmokeDevelopedratingsof200-325showed"good"to"marginal"visibilityinallcasesinsixminutes.MaterialshavingSmokeDevelopedratingsabove325showed"good"to"marginal"visibility(scalereadingsof3to4.8)inafewcases;othermaterialsproducedconditionsof"marginal"visibilitytoobscurationinthesixminuteperiod.
